Multi-Network Connectivity for Lift Emergency Lines

A global lift and elevator monitoring provider needed every emergency phone line, in every lift, in every market, to work the same way. Instead of negotiating a local carrier relationship for every country it operated in, it moved to a single multi-network model with OV.

The challenge

Lift emergency communication systems depend on a working voice line the moment someone presses the call button. Providers operating across multiple countries have traditionally had to set up a separate local carrier relationship, and often a separate local number, in every market they enter. That means separate contracts, separate billing, and separate points of failure to manage as the estate grows.

A single-network SIM in any one country also creates a single point of failure: if that carrier has an outage, the emergency line goes down with it, at exactly the moment it matters most.

The solution

The provider kept ownership of its local phone numbers in each market, and paired each one with an OV multi-network SIM. That gives resilient VoLTE voice connectivity across major operators in every country, so the emergency line automatically has more than one network to fall back on, without the provider having to manage multiple carrier relationships to get there. The commercial and technical model is the same in every market: no per-country carve-outs to negotiate or maintain.

Where existing lift hardware already supports LTE and VoLTE, no device replacement is needed. Where it doesn’t, a hardware upgrade is required before the multi-network model can be used.

The results

The provider now manages emergency line connectivity through a single commercial relationship instead of a separate one per market, with a consistent technical model wherever it operates. That consistency is the point: the same failover behaviour, the same monitoring approach, and the same escalation path apply whether a lift is in one country or another.

From the OV team

“Lift operators don’t want to think about telecoms market by market. What they want is for the emergency line to just work, the same way, everywhere they operate. That consistency is what we built this model around.”
